Unspoiling Our Child
Before M's tonsils were removed, she slept on a pile of comforters on the floor next to our bed. She'd rarely wake up before morning.
Right after the tonsillectomy, we let her sleep in our bed and I'd get her whatever she wanted in the middle of the night. Now she's feeling better. But, she also got spoiled by us catering to her every need while she was recovering. Now she expects to sleep in our bed and for us to get whatever she wants in the middle of the night, usually juice or milk. We're putting our foot down and saying no to both, much to our own suffering with her crying, screaming, moaning, begging. Hubby, who caught the bug the girls recently had, is getting no sleep and complaining about it. Sleeping pills don't help him either. He's going to sleep in the living room tonight to try to get some rest. I've been sleeping on the floor with M so she won't crawl into our bed, but she still wakes up wanting juice or milk. I tell her no juice, no milk, but I will get her water (still concerned about juice or milk rotting her teeth while sleeping), which just makes matters worse. I can't wait until our unspoiling ordeal is over. since 2/25/2001
