Life can be so cruel
A Nome family is dealing with the tragic loss of two young brothers. Both boys died in two separate incidents on the same day.
According to Nome police, the mother of 6-day-old Brandon Kakaruk called emergency crews Thursday morning when she discovered the baby wasn't breathing. Police say the infant died before an ambulance arrived.
Then Thursday afternoon the mother called police a second time to say her 3-year-old son Jacob had been hit by a truck driven by a Nome man. The boy was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Police are investigating the collision and the state medical examiner is trying to determine the cause of the baby's death.
